1) download from the official website
2) Made a copy of my original gw folder onto desktop, afterwhich i copied it to E: , same as my original gw just a different folder name
- E: Guildwar and E: Guildwarzz
3) Extract out GWX2 and path my primary to my orginal gw.exe (guildwar) and the secondary as the gw.exe (guildwarzz)
4) when i launched it, 2 windows opened initially but 1 closes almost immediately and was brought to the login page.
5) tried re-copying gw.exe file.
6) had previously launched GW the usual way, minimised to window mode and closed it.
Im using winxp 1gb ram.
I read from several threads (did my homework ) some people faces the same issue as me. Can someone drop us some advise?
Thanks in advanced!

Which you missed 1 important step in the directions. Which is the one lots of ppl miss also. steps 5 and 6 read carefully. It is highly recommend that you do not click yes to open both clients immediately after when finished running GWx2. Open 1 account first load up a character then minimize that client to window view. Then X out of the game. Then reload using GWx2 and you should be fine.
So it goes basically like this.
1. get update
2.open 1 client load to character then minimize to windows then X out of game. The one you got your update too.
3. copy to ur second folder.
4. then run GWx2 install (for first time users) do not open both clients after running setup at its end.
5. open 1 client load to character then minimize to windows then X out of game.
6. Now you can run GWx2 to run both clients.

Ok hate bringing this up , but I think this doesnt work anymore since this weekends update.
None of the dual solutions work anymore for me including gwx2 and others.

Ok, someone please help me before I punch my monitor.
It used to work, but the update came and it doesn't anymore.
I tried everything. I went through the steps 2 times, nothing.
I get the usual, 2 clients pop up, 1 goes away.

You need to copy and paste the GW.exe into your x2 folder.

No it is not so complicated
I found out after some trying that both clients need to be fully updated if you have the closing 1 client issue.
After I made sure of that I haven't had any problems anymore.
I made 2 shortscuts each in one folder which has the -image switch so everytimne there is an update I run thoose and it works again.

Same issue here and i read and tried all steps several times, even made a new folder with the updated gw.exe and dat file (updated gwx2 setup to point to new path) and still nothing, only one window stays opened.
Yes, I made sure I did step 5 and 6 as recommended. Even your notes about loggin, walking and closing, etc. When I open my clients themselves, one at a time, they are still on window mode.
I have noticed that the .dat file is slightly different sizes at times, dont know why. Whn I try opening with gwx2, and one window crashes, both dat files are the same size. But if I open clients on their own, the dat file is smaller. So somehow the gwx2 adds some bytes to the dat file when is used.

since you said you foolewed the directions I still have to ask this. Did you minimize to windows the first client after getting the update and opening before copying the gw.exe and gw.dat to ur second folder. That is a big part that people do miss. Even when they say they followed the steps.

I did, because that is how I have been playing the game, both clients on window mode so I can see and switch between clients easier.
What fix can be done if people dont set to window mode after the update though? Does it cause something irreversible?
Just out of curiosity, I just tried opening the clients and maximized them each, closed and tried to open with gwx2 and it keeps the one on primary path opened but it opens it on window mode already, not maximized. But if i go to each folder and open the clients from there, they open maximized. o.O
Is there any way to reset all this? I tried changing directories, making fresh copies of the main folder etc. Nothing works. Only the client I set up on primary path opens.
When I removed gwx2 and unzip to a folder again, it always has the paths filled in, so the data must be stored somewhere. There arent any hidden files and there really wasnt an install file, is just an application you set up right then and there w/o installing any files as far as I can see.

A better idea, would be to change the
Code:
start "" "C:\Games\Guild Wars\gw.exe"
to
Code:
start "" "C:\Games\Guild Wars\gw.exe -image"
As this will grab any updates, and exit GW's automatically, it then will not require the taskkill that's a couple of lines later. A more graceful solution I think.

Makes sense to me. Have to say though, I ran gwx2 two days ago for the first time in months, just copied gw.exe over by hand and everything went swimmingly. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones

No theres no problems if dont set to windowed mode. Its just that seems to be whats causing the problems for most people though.
In the shortcut for GWx2 and the line -setup under properties. That will run the setup for it again.
After you run setup on GWx2. write exactly the way you go about running. Maybe we can see whats up then.

If you use the links posted here, there's no chance of that happening. These versions have been tested time and again and contain no key-loggers. (I use it myself)
But, it is all up to you,- no one's forcing you to use them

Nope is totally safe been using it for a while and still have my accounts so
As for people with stratup errors it is 99% that not BOTH clients are at the same revision !
You will need to run the -image as otherwise they will never be identical!

miko, i've been using the "alternate" version of GWx2. i used to have the same problem you're having with the "main" version. i don't have any problems now. try uninstalling the first one and use the second one. i dunno why, but it worked for me.

Oh, I have been doing the -setup on shortcut on every attempt to make sure paths are defined correctly. But like I said, even if I delete the folder with the application, when I unzip again and try to run the setup, the paths are already there, defined. So it keeps a "memory" of it somehow.
Abyss, as for the updates, I ran -image on both directories to make sure, they are both updated, both same size, including the dat file.
But no matter where I move my second directory and change the path on the application, it only keeps the primary one open. I even tried switching around, placing the 2nd folder gw on the primary path and the original gw.exe on the secondary path, it will open the primary, yet again. I can tell because the login I use when opening them manually, is dif on both directories, one folder I login with 1 account, the other I log with a dif account. I have also used same login on both, so that is not making a difference, it just helped me determine which gw.exe was staying opened.
I am out of ideas as to why is not working. Btw I have 2gb of ram, so plenty to run both, it was working before. It all got screwed after I updated the main gw.exe and copied that to the 2nd folder. After that, it started doing the one window thing, no matter what I did, ran -image, made new 2nd folder, changed paths, open clients on their own, walked, logged out, window mode, full size mode, nothing. I dont understand why if both .exe are the same, it is giving me problems now, it worked before for several days.
